Sovereign Platform Support Engineer

Overview

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for an experienced support engineer to join the international Assured Sovereign Azure Platform team, focused on secure cross-domain and administration capabilities.

In support of Sovereign Microsoft Azure capabilities, our cross-domain services enable secure data transfer between platforms, supporting security, sovereignty, monitoring and control. Coupled with the challenges of supporting complex environments across disparate security domains, these roles create exciting complex engineering and service support challenges you can solve with us!

We are looking for a seasoned Support Engineer to join a fast-paced team and solve complex problems in the domain of mission-critical and highly assured distributed systems – including API’s, secure gateways, data partitioning and system management as well as deployment and self-healing capabilities.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive and oversee the operation and support of a critical set of secure services to be consumed by customers in highly secured and regulated industries. The systems and software you support will be required to meet the complex security policy and assurance requirements of both public and private sector customers.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and multiple years of hands-on experience in providing operations support to complex IT environments.
  • Foundational knowledge and experience deploying/configuring and maintaining: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, VPN, MECM, Windows Desktop deployments and application installations.
  • Foundational knowledge and experience deploying/configuring and maintaining Network environments (both in physical platforms and Azure) including: L2/L3 Routing (BGP) & Switching, Firewalls (NAT & ACLs), IPSEC VPN.
  • Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) or any other Cloud Certification
  • Preferred:

  • Solid experience in system and service administration of complex platforms.
  • A passion for innovation in complex and constrained environments, to deliver advanced and progressive customer experiences.
  • Understanding of the challenges of system and service management in high security domains.
  • Systems shell scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, Python) and Dev Ops suites such as Ansible or equivalent.
  • Capable working in broad domains including security, software, networking and service design.
  • Extensive experience of service support, with on-call responsibilities. 
  • Expertise experience in problem solving and analysing distributed systems and critical production service environments.
  • DevOps experience, including continuous configuration automation.
  • Azure deployment knowledge including Bicep and Arm templates.
  • Very good English skills and good communication skills in reading/writing of the French language
  • Cloud Background check: 

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

    Microsoft Cloud Background Check: 

    This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Responsibilities

  • As a Sovereign Platform Support Engineer, you’ll be responsible for providing support, troubleshooting, and automation for products, services, and experiences within high-assurance environments. These environments demand robust security and reliability, so your role will involve ensuring smooth operations and rapid resolution of issues.
  • Within the Sovereign environment, you’ll utilise DevOps practices to deploy, operate, and maintain specific services. This includes services related to networking, servers, and desktops. The goal is to achieve secure administration and efficient operation of sovereign environments.
  • You’ll actively drive 24/7/365 support, which means rotating on-call duties. Your responsiveness and problem-solving skills will be crucial.
  • Collaboration across the global organization is essential. By maximizing process sharing and reuse, you’ll enhance efficiency and consistency. Sharing best practices and lessons learned will contribute to overall success.
  • Working closely with security teams, you’ll ensure adherence to security standards. This involves integrating security practices into all aspects of your work. By maintaining a strong security posture, you’ll protect critical assets.
  • Expect approximately 50-75% onsite travel to the Sovereign Operations Center. This physical presence is vital for effective coordination, monitoring, and collaboration within the center.
