Senior Manager of IT, Europe

POSITION SUMMARY:

This European technology position provides IT direction, execution, and support across practices in the European region. This role will provide support and guidance in evolving Milliman’s regional capabilities and have the skills to engage with the day-to-day technology development, maintenance, and operation needs of offices and practices. This critical role will support Milliman’s global IT model in improving levels of service and efficiency through collaboratively developing, maintaining, and enhancing IT capabilities. Supporting practices at a local, European (regional), and global level will require strong collaboration with the various leaders in the US, Europe, and elsewhere.

This technology professional role will be based out of Paris and will report to the Director of IT as part of the GCS (Global Corporate Services) group. This person also works closely with Milliman's technical steering groups and European IT Leaders in several countries to set operational goals, objectives, and service level expectations. The role will work directly with Milliman's internal staff, contractors, and external vendors to implement IT strategy, including projects and daily tasks. This person must be passionate about relationship building, process improvement, technical, architectural, and operational excellence, and team development. This role, initially, will not have any direct HR reporting employees.

This person will build integrated partnerships with IT leaders and staff worldwide as an upbeat manager and a team player. The role is responsible for mentoring the teams, inspiring and motivating them to pursue and achieve projects/goals the technology and European leadership set forth. This person will also act as an escalation for local staff in the region and will possess the skills and knowledge to resolve issues and drive project success. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A validated technology professional with a track record of growing direct and indirect teams that deliver significant impact in high growth and distributed companies.
  • Partners with other GCS and Milliman leaders to understand, influence, and shape the future roadmap of corresponding capabilities at a local (country), regional (Europe), and global level.
  • Responsible for driving and facilitating IT, Infosec, and Compliance audits for the regional practices with the help of local IT staff and vendors.
  • Partner with security experts to ensure each practice's infrastructure meets all security requirements and continues to evolve to meet changing needs and best practices.
  • Responsible for identification and resolution of local and regional IT-related issues and opportunities; acts as a subject matter expert for IT operations and infrastructure with decision-making authority.
  • Provide guidance and help in developing/deploying GDPR and Schrems II compliant solutions for the practices in Europe.
  • Initiate and develop a community for IT professionals in the European countries to share and grow expertise.
  • Oversee helpdesk and other reactive support services to support employees across physical machines and cloud-based solutions.
  • Review production systems to identify and prioritize opportunities to improve the response time, availability, and reliability of solutions while reducing utilization and costs. 
  • Manage the development and implementation processes for the organization's corporate capabilities, from roadmap creation to project planning, development, implementation, and communication to the organization as needed.
  • SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience and successful operation of complex information technology environments.
  • Proficiency in English is a must; although not required, knowledge of other languages would be relevant.
  • Experience in working with European countries and cultures.
  • Proven experience in the areas of staff management, development, and mentoring giving performance feedback and regular evaluation for team members to achieve success.
  • Direct experience in leading and driving projects that demonstrate knowledge and expertise in developing GDPR-compliant solutions. 
  • Knowledgeable of current technology trends, including the impact of cloud and operations automation on IT Operations and Service Delivery. 
  • Must have strong communication and relationship skills and interact effectively with senior leadership.
  • Good project management skills and attention to detail
  • Experience managing vendor relationships for all infrastructure services and solutions and reviewing vendor contracts, statements of work, and related documents.
  • Must have proven ability to influence without authority.
  • LOCATION:

  • Candidate will be required to work out of Paris office atleast 3 days a week.
