The mission is in the business line Industrial Merchant, in charge of delivering customers by transportation, in bulk or in compressed packaged gases.

Entity and activity description

Air Liquide is a global leading supplier of industrial and medical gases. In the Benelux, Air Liquide Benelux Industries operates a unique pipeline grid and several on-site production units to deliver industrial gases (oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and carbon monoxide) to its large industrial customers. It also runs cogeneration plants (co-producing steam and electricity) on two industrial sites. It announced in March 2021 very ambitious Climate Objectives with the ultimate goal of being Climate Neutral by 2050, and intermediary steps in 2025 and 2035. 

You will be a member of the Energy Management team, which is part of the Large Industries (LI) Performance Center at the heart of the Benelux Operations. Together with the ROCC (Remote Operations Control Center), LEAD (focusing on operational optimization & improvements) and Digital & Data Science team. The Performance Center’s mission is to operate Air Liquide’s network in the most reliable, sustainable and efficient manner by leveraging the latest technologies and by bringing value to our large customers.

You will join a diverse team of 4 Energy Managers, located in two countries, and be very close to the Air Liquide Benelux Industries-Large Industries’ top management. Each Energy Manager has their specific areas of expertise and focus. During this mission, you will work side-by-side with the Energy Manager located in Brussels who is driving our power portfolio and energy transition roadmap. 

Missions and Responsibilities

A thorough Energy Management is critical to ensure Air Liquide’s long term competitiveness and relevance in society, driven by three main factors:

  • The production and distribution of industrial gases requires a significant amount of energy (with associated costs)
  • Air Liquide has ambitious sustainability targets which introduce new and complex energy agreements into our portfolio, aiming to reduce our carbon footprint
  • An ever evolving and increasingly complex regulatory framework with strict requirements to comply with

The Performance Center has the ambition of being the leader in how Air Liquide is managing its energy portfolio, especially in light of the Energy Transition and Air Liquide’s very ambitious sustainability objectives.

    You will work as an integral part of the Energy Management Department and in close cooperation with several other departments (e.g. LEAD, ROCC, Business Development, SEGE, Legal, Regulatory Affairs). You will be actively coached and supported by a dedicated Energy Manager

    The goals of this VIE mission include:

  • Identify strengths & opportunities in our power portfolio , by improving the current performance monitoring process, facilitate brainstorm sessions with colleagues from LEAD, SEGE and working with the Digital & Data Science team on evolutions of the current dashboards
  • Support a continuous improvement project aimed at automating a key operational process (monthly stewardship) by being the single point of contact in the Energy Management Team. As part of this project, you will be encouraged to propose new ways of working to streamline existing processes & interfaces
  • Contribute to Support the development of flagship Energy Transition projects (e.g. CCS/Green Hydrogen Large Scale Electrolyzers) by e.g. taking ownership of specific analyses, interpret & synthesize regulatory frameworks
  • Set up an end-to-end holistic energy pilotage across different business lines (Large Industries, Industrial Merchant) as well as geographies (BE & NL) and integrate this in existing coordination processes, focusing on people collaboration & processes
  • Improve knowledge retention/transfer and document management by e.g. reviewing of folder structures, improving procedures and documentation of critical processes
  • Competencies and Profile

    The ideal candidate must have a Masters’ degree of Science in Engineering (civil, industrial, chemistry, bio, ...), Business/Commercial Sciences, General Management. What really counts is your ability and willingness to continuously develop yourself and work as a team.

    You are the perfect candidate for this role if you possess:

  • Analytical skills: you will periodically need to deep dive into lots of data and analytical tools to evaluate the impact of legislation and/or develop the most optimized solution .
  • Communication skills: the ability to synthesize the results of complex analysis for a varied audience, with a bias towards action-oriented recommendations
  • Transversal management skills : you will be at the heart of a dynamic organisation, working closely together with members of many different departments.
  • Learning agility and result-orientation will be key to perform and take the most of this first professional experience.
  • Empathy
  • Inclusive mindset & eagerness to work with team members with different backgrounds 
  • English fluency is a must. French/Dutch is a real plus

    Job based in Brussels, Belgium for an initial 12 months period.
