Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Junior Stress Engineer (m/f) based in Marignane, France.

Do you love Aeronautics & Mechanical engineering and do you want to develop stress competencies?

Do you want to work on the great Airbus Helicopters fleet, such as Super Puma?

If you do so, you’ll have the opportunity to be involved in the serial life of the Super Puma, in the frame of new contracts with various customer missions : customization, new equipments installation, from the development phase, the adjustments in final assembly line, the drawings validation with design teams, and finally the certification!

About us:

Airframe stress department is an international department regrouping 120 people organized in 3 departments located in Marignane and Dönauworth and responsible for the whole Airbus Helicopter fleet.


You will join the Legacy and Innovation airframe stress engineering department (ETISF- Stress France) located in Marignane. You will be part of an integrated team of 40 people having the global view on helicopter structural design and stress analysis.

Team spirit and collaborative work is the key behaviour of the department.

Serial activities is the main activity of the department, enriched by the innovation (drone, new products, manufacturing) and by the Overhaul/Maintenance of 1st generation aircrafts.

Your challenges:

You will contribute to the following main activities:

As Junior Stress Engineer, you will be trained to loads and stress computation. Your competences in Mechanical Engineering will allow you contribute to the development of some installations, their integration on the helicopter and the substantiation of the necessary structure modifications in terms of material strength. Once those stress computations done, your drawing signature will launch the manufacturing process, and your technical notes will launch the certification process versus the Safety Authorities. You will be then close to the Design and Airworthiness teams, and of course well supported by the whole Stress team.

You will discover the main structural components of an helicopter, the primary structure (skins, frames, beams and floors), the secondary structure (doors, canopy, cowlings and windows) and the numerous major equipments (hoist, floatation, sling, electric bays, fuel tanks etc…)

The stress activities consist in the definition of the loads, the analytical and numerical calculations (FEM), in static and fatigue, including non-linear analysis, metallic and composite, buckling and links justification (rivets, lugs, screws). Follow-up of mechanical tests on ground and in flight is also our responsibility to consolidate our stress results and to comply with the Airworthiness rules.

Your profile:

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to 5 years’ degree level (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or related discipline .

  • At least one year of experience in engineering

  • Static structural analysis composite & metallic

  • Verify design, check of drawing, pre-sizing, architecture choice (autonomous)

  • Failure analysis, fatigue evaluation, spectrum definition (basic level)

  • Competences in softwares like Nastran, Hypermesh, Samcef, would be appreciated

  • Rigorous, Team spirit, continuous improvement, service mindness

  • Language Skills: Advanced level of French and English
