Eco-design R&D Engineer - Interiors (M/F)
Location: Valenciennes, France
You will join our Interiors Component Development Site and Product Family of Valenciennes Petite Forêt, a key actor in the design and development or interior train parts as well as front ends, with more than 180 people & 22 different nationalities, designer, buyer, industrial, quality, Project Managers & Product Experts, working both for French & International projects.
What are my responsibilities?
Purpose of the Job/Objective
Responsible for maximising the eco-design rating of all new Rolling Stock Interiors products & solutions (including Front-end), focusing on circularity via the introduction/qualification of new (recyclable/recycled/bio-sourced) materials, design for recyclability & re-use, etc.

Performance Measurement
KPI Eco-design (% eco-design process, % recyclability rate, % circular content)
KPI R&D Projects (OTIF, Gate Reviews on time, budget adherence)
KPI Innovation generation & exploitation (new idea generation, number of inventions, use on commercial projects)
Your responsibilities include:
Develops the R&D roadmap for eco-designed Interiors products, considering all potential directions such as circularity, design for recyclability & re-use, lightweighting, etc.
Supports research and product development projects (internal + at suppliers) related to the qualification of raw materials & manufacturing processes enabling the manufacturing of greener trains ( via recycled & recyclable raw material, bio-sourced materials, etc.). Develops and/or analyses LCAs to support decision making and optimal guidance to R&D projects
Develops processes & tools supporting R&D, product management and benchmarking activities from an eco-design perspective
Supports eco-design assessment on commercial projects, including hazardous substances check and recyclability/recoverability calculations according to applicable regulations and standards ( REACH, ISO 21106:2019)
Analyzes the market and competition (industrial watch, scientific & technological watch) in relation to eco-design materials and circular economy
Suggests innovative solutions and R&D partnerships opportunities in line with Alstom’s development strategy, and taking into account customer’s needs and requirements.
Ensures applicability of the developed materials & products onto commercial projects through close collaboration with the Marketing, Tender & Project teams (Engineering, Costing, Sourcing, Quality, etc.)
Contributes to internal budget collection for R&D activities and manages reporting to internal customers
Develops the network of internal and external R&D partners for innovation in relation to eco-design topics
What do I need to qualify for this job?
Minimum qualifications
Engineering background in product design, materials, physics, chemistry, with specialization in eco-design
At least 3yrs experience in eco-design engineering in an industrial, preferably international, context
Good knowledge of eco-design related regulations and LCA
Proven R&D project management experience in an industrial environment
Experience in railway, aeronautics or automotive is a plus
Skills
Autonomous, results driven and team-oriented personality with strong relationship skills
Ability to prioritize and to work effectively under pressure to meet the deadlines
Strong passion for innovation and questioning the status quo, and perceiving (upcoming) market needs
Fast prototyper, likes to experiment in order to quickly show/test new concepts & solutions
Strong written and spoken communication skills
Ability to work in an international environment; Speak and write in English; French is a bonus.
