What you will do: 

The Global Banking Chief Underwriting, Portfolio Management and ECB Engagement team reports to the GB Continental Europe Co-Heads. The team has a high profile within the first and second lines of defence and is set up to oversee syndication activity across Investment Banking (LAF, ECM, DCM) products, dynamically optimise capital deployed through the asset life cycle for the Global Banking lending book as well as take leadership for Wholesale ECB Regulatory Engagement topics. The team works closely with IB (LAF, ECM, DCM) syndicate teams, works alongside the broader European/Global Portfolio Management teams with responsibility for the HBCE Global Banking lending origination oversight, balance sheet and credit risk topics. The team also takes leadership of Wholesale ECB Regulatory Engagement and associated remediation activities in collaboration with Wholesale COO, CMB and Global Banking teams.

In this role you will:

• Support Chief Underwriting Officer in approving all syndicated transactions (LAF, ECM and DCM) and work with product syndicate teams to ensure HBCE activity is well risk managed in line with regulatory expectations
• Manage lending portfolio and capital optimisation activities at origination via the CAC / sub-CAC submission processes, and support the Capital Allocation Committee (CAC) to ensure that Global Banking’s capital is allocated as effectively as possible in order to maximise returns in support of the broader Banking strategy, by reviewing all lending requests
• Droves the Worry-Watch-Monitor process with focus on identification, monitoring and management of challenged credits for purposes of protecting against loss and reporting specific cases and general trends to relevant stakeholders
• Works with wider team and stakeholders (Risk, Regulatory Compliance, Regulatory Affairs and Wholesale COO) to support Wholesale business engagement with ECB and associated remediation and lending programs

Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of Investment Banking products and processes
• Strong understanding of lending dynamics and proven Credit Risk skills 
• Strong understanding of capital, including RWAs and Tangible Equity and how to optimise in order to maximise portfolio return
• Client management skills, with the ability to build and develop networks and relationships with internal clients and stakeholders
• A role model who drives performance by living the values of HSBC
• Strong interpersonal, networking and influencing skills
• French language skills would be beneficial
