Communications Associate Director - SEB region (South Europe and Brazil)

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Communications, Region Europe South Europe (France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Benelux and Brazil) this person will be responsible for delivering and driving external communications activities supporting SEB countries on approved and pipeline portfolio, elevating the corporate profile and driving employee engagement via internal communications.

Based in Paris, the person in this role will work closely with the cross-functional teams, as well as with the International Corporate Affairs team.

This is a Hybrid role (3 days a week in the office are required).

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the local communications program to further establish Vertex’ corporate profile, focus on the hemoglobinopathies portfolio and disease awareness with a focus on France, Spain & Portugal, and Brazil and ad hoc support to other SEB countries.
  • Handle media enquiries from healthcare consumer and medical trade journalists and drive media relations around strategic regulatory milestones of new products as well as reinforce and protect the company corporate profile.
  • Organization of regional media events and preparation of press releases, media materials, Q&A documents, presentations etc.
  • Support to leaders on external profiling opportunities, spokespersons preparations and media interviews
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to ensure alignment and collaboration in strategic priorities and messaging across different stakeholder groups.
  • Support issues mitigation and management
  • Oversee media monitoring and reporting process, including identifying and tracking key media influencers.
  • Support on internal Communications initiatives to enhance employees’ engagement.
  • Management of local Communications Agencies
     

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech business model, regulatory and reimbursement processes in EU and Brazil, communications guidelines and market access environment
  • Experience in developing and implementing external communications plans for medicines at all stages of the life cycle, including the reimbursement process
  • Ability to understand and accurately communicate complex science
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations (traditional and social) knowledge of healthcare and industry media and reporting trends
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously; flexibility and results-oriented focus are essential
  • Ability to interact with senior management and high-profile experts appropriately, with confidence and ease
  • Strong collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills; strong interpersonal skills; a team player
  • Ability to deliver results with limited direction and guidance and on tight deadlines; a self-starter; curious with a strong learning agility; ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing priorities

  • Operationally excellent and resilient in the context of a rapidly changing environment
  • Organized with systematic approach to prioritization
  • Ability to give formal presentations to internal and external audiences of various sizes
  • Typically requires a BA degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field (or International Equivalent) proven relevant experience, which includes solid healthcare public relations experience
  • PR agency experience or in-house at another pharmaceutical/biotech company required
  • Fluency in French, English, written and spoken is required.
